2022 First Light Marathon (not in Baguio)

The First Light Marathon will be taking place in Tairāwhiti Gisborne, Aotearoa New Zealand on 26 February 2022 so more time to prepare. Tairāwhiti Gisborne is also known for being the first city in the world to see the sun each day, hence the name of the marathon.

Indigenous culture will be proudly expressed in the Tairāwhiti Gisborne since more than half of the population are ethnic Māori. Participants will be able to see intricately carved meeting houses and beautifully painted Māori churches throughout the route.

Each runner will also be able to discover Tairāwhiti’s stunning natural environment and the rich stories of tangata whenua (people of the land).

Surfing areas are also predominant along the beaches of the East Coast or one can simply join a reef ecology tour to learn more about the inhabitants living just below the surface.

Plus, you can also take a taste of some of the finest wine that Aotearoa New Zealand has to offer including the world-class food offerings.
