2020 Taal Volcano

The Taal Volcano in Batangas erupted last 12 January 2020 which led to an evacuation of thousands of residents within the 17-kilometre radius.

Philvolcs raised an Alert Level 4 at around 7:30 PM due to its phreatic eruption. This led to ashes being spewed from its main crater resulting also to suspension of class and work schedules and also airport flights specifically in NAIA.

Taal Volcano is known as the second most active volcano in the Philippines which is second only to Mayon Volcano which is located in Albay, Bicol Region.

One of its powerful eruptions was its 6-month eruption in 1754 while its deadliest eruption was in 1911 which led to a loss of 1,335 persons. In 1965, 190 people died when it erupted again. Four minor eruptions were recorded prior to this latest 2020 eruption.
