Marcelino Palitog Sana-oy, who dubbed himself as theĀ “simplest runner” passed away due to a tragic accidental fall when he climbed a pine tree in Mangagew, Bokod, Benguet.

At 29 years old, he left behind his wife and two daughters.

He was born in Kabayo, Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya but is a resident of Japas, Bobok-bisal, Bokod, Benguet.

Marcelino Palitog Sana-oy became known in the trail running community of the Philippines especially when he became the first champion of the prestige Cordillera Mountain Marathon in the Mt. Pulag as well as the Cordillera Mountain Ultra in Itogon, Benguet.

He started his racing career at the age of 18 before he ventured into the world of trail running. He already joined several King of the Mountain races, won the 2017 Tawid Mountain Marathon, and also won the Pilipinas Akyathlon 2017 along with female racer, Sandi Menchi Abahan.

He also represented the Philippines in several countries including Malaysia, Hongkong, and even in the 2017 Asian Skyrunning Championships in Japan.

His remains will be buried on 22 November 2019.
