Marcelo Bautista, a Baguio City ultramarathoner, was a finisher in the 2018 Hapalua Half Marathon held two months ago on 8 April 2018 at Honolulu, Hawaii. He was ranked 440 at the said event who had a record of 7,289 race finishers.
He was one of the elite runners in Baguio City who joined the said race and became qualified to run in one of the world’s most famous marathons, the Boston Marathon in the United States.
He is now 37 years old and already accomplished many wins and loses at the running community. He already earned around 20 trophies and 180 medals from joining various Philippine athletic competitions and international running events.
He was a former janitor at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center before devoting his time as a full-time athlete. He intends to run in another Honolulu Marathon this year hoping for a better ranking and results.
Wonderful news. Is there an ultra Marathon record for the Philippines? What distance is Ultra Marathon?
Please clarify your question but if you are asking if Marcelo Bautista already had an Ultra Marathon record, yes he already had several awards. He joined the following races where he won and set the Course Record. Some of these include in the year 2012 such as:
August – PAU National Guimaras Championship
November – West Coast 200K Multistage Ultramarathon
December – Tagaytay to Nasugbu Ultramarathon
There are other records out there in the internet world, it is only a few clicks away.
I was featuring his qualification for the Boston Marathon in the post because I believe in him, a Baguio City runner, and I also was one of the few runners who were lucky enough to see him run from previous races.
